Four jailed six months on drug charges

Four persons, who were charged for possession and use of narcotic drugs, were on Friday sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour.

Prince Muntari, a painter, was sentenced to three months while Samuel Abby-Quaye, Artist, Kpakpo Allotey, Bathroom Attendant, and Ofosu Richmond, Driver, were sentenced to one month imprisonment each.

Prince was charged for possession of narcotic drugs while Samuel, Kpakpo and Ofosu were charged for use of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh told the court that on June 3, a team of police personnel from the Greater Accra Regional and Kaneshie Divisional Command embarked on a swoop within the Kaneshie jurisdiction.

He said the team visited the Abeka Number Three School, Darkuman Circle Station, Darkuman Station, Cable and Wireless, Kaneshie Social Welfare and Swanlake.

He said during the operation, 21 suspects were arrested and were subjected to screening and the four convicts were found with quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

DSP Morkeh said the convicts in their investigation caution statement denied the offence except Samuel who admitted it.
