Mr Devine Opare, Central Regional Director of the Department of Children in the Ministry of Women and Children has urged effective collaboration between non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the government to enhance child survival and development.
Addressing a forum of non-governmental organisations at Cape Coast on Saturday, Mr Opare said non-state actors were expected to play a crucial role in national efforts at addressing numerous challenges confronting the welfare of children.
The forum, organized by the Department of Children, provided a forum for the NGOs to seek new ways of addressing problems militating against children's welfare, including issues relating to education and adoption of the child.
Mr Opare said his outfit was partnering with other government agencies and NGOs to harness existing policies in order to effectively promote children's welfare.
During the discussions, representatives of the NGOs were unanimous of the need to network among themselves in order to achieve common targets and cut down on duplication.
They cited lack of funds to support specific projects as a general problem hindering their performance.
