Former Juventus executive Luciano Moggi says he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights to overturn his lifetime ban from soccer.
Moggi and others had prison sentences thrown out on Tuesday by Italy’s highest criminal court, which ruled the statute of limitations expired in the nine-year-old match-fixing scandal, known as Calciopoli. Moggi was accused of creating a network of contacts with Italian football federation officials to influence refereeing assignments.
He avoided a 28-month jail term for criminal association, but remains banned for life from soccer.
The 77-year-old Moggi, who has always denied wrongdoing, says “my battle continues.”’
