The Ashanti Regional Federation of Muslim Women's Association in Ghana (FOMWAG), has demonstrated its commitment to community well-being by donating cleaning materials worth thousands of cedis to the Pediatric Unit of the Manhyia District Hospital.
The donation, including a wheelbarrow, brooms, dustbins, detergents, and packs of bottled water, aims to elevate the cleanliness standards of the medical facility.
As part of their broader community engagement, FOMWAG organised a hands-on clean-up exercise at the hospital during their 14th regional annual conference.
This initiative not only underscores their dedication to supporting healthcare infrastructure but also emphasises the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for all.
In line with the federation’s dedication to societal contribution and bolstering the local community, Regional President Kabirat Ahmed Salihs expressed that the initiative mirrors their commitment.
"As per our Islamic teachings, it is incumbent upon us to express affection and concern for those who are unwell. Hence, our plan to visit the Pediatric ward, provide a donation, and actively participate in the hospital's clean-up."
Kabirat stressed the significance of the community's engagement in supporting the vulnerable and urged individuals to contribute to society, recognising that the government alone cannot fulfill all requirements.
Gladys Abban, the Nurse Manager at the hospital, conveyed appreciation on behalf of the facility for this generous gesture, recognising its impact on both the hospital and its patients.
She additionally highlighted a significant challenge faced by the facility, pointing out that the inability of some patients to acquire their National Health Insurance Cards poses a major hurdle.
This situation often results in patients remaining in the hospital post-treatment due to their inability to settle their medical bills.
"Despite the long existence of health insurance, there are still individuals without coverage. Consequently, when such individuals seek medical assistance, we encounter difficulties concerning their bills and the procurement of necessary medications," she pointed out.
Abban, while urging the public to prioritise NHIS card registration, appealed to philanthropic organizations to step forward and aid these individuals in meeting their hospital expenses.
