Lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning says he is saddened by the “painful dismissal” of Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko over the controversial AMERI power deal.
According to him, Boakye Agyarko was one of the best performing Ministers in Akufo-Addo government and though he erred in the new AMERI deal, the president’s decision to sack him was too extreme.
Mr Amoaning has therefore called on the president to deal with all those involved in the deal and not to isolate Agyarko.
“If you’re playing football and you substitute your captain who is scoring goals for you, you’re going to lose; I think he is the current goal scorer for the government, compared to other sector ministers,” Foh-Amoaning said.
The Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, was speaking Monday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues program, following the dismissal of Mr Agyarko over the attempted review of the AMERI energy deal.
“To be honest with you, the president has taken some very bold decisions and we know several Ministers with huge question marks over them such as the controversy over the Kelni GVG contract signed under the watch of the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful,” the ace broadcaster stated.
“In Agyarko’s case, he passed it on to the president and the Presidency also approved it so the one who misled the president should be the person who advised the president to sign the deal through Executive Order, not Agyarko,” the lawyer stated.
“My own good friend Nana Asante Bediatuo who signed the deal on behalf of the president also has some questions to answer, should’ve the Minister gone because of this, no I don’t think so,” he posited.
Lawyer Foh-Amoaning said he suspects that the immediate past “intelligent” Energy Minister was set up in the controversial deal.
“Agyarko is very knowledgeable to be beaten by figures concerning the agreement but I smell a bit of a rat, it looks like a setup,” he said.
Contributing to the discussions, IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe said he also suspected that Agyarko was set up for failure by some people.
“I think Agyarko was boxed into a corner; it was a trap, and I think he fell for it,” the outspoken Cudjoe stated.
“Agyarko alone cannot be blamed for this AMERI fiasco, what was the president’s own lawyer’s view on the contract,” IMANI Africa President asked.
“We need to rescue the Presidency if indeed he [president] was misled in approving the deal as reported,” he said.
