A former Chief of Air Staff, Air Commodore Kwame Korankye Pumpuni (Rtd) has questioned the decision Ghana Armed Forces to test run an aircraft without examining its operational status.
The CASA C295 aircraft overrun the apron and crashed into the grass parchment at the Air Force Base on Wednesday.
The Armed Forces explained that mandatory check up on the aircraft has elapsed for over year, reason for the crash.
But Air Commodore Punpunic (Rtd) believes the military had no business flying the aircraft without proper maintenance.
“I cannot see how an aircraft can start taxing off and the pilot cannot redirect or stop it. If the aircraft was due for servicing and for that reason they have been grounded, then I don’t see why anybody should be running the engine at all. It should have been parked for it to be sent to wherever or the engineers coming from Airbus to come and do the servicing here.”
Meanwhile, JoyNews has learnt that aircraft manufacturer, Airbus has been notified and a team would arrive in the country this weekend to investigate the crash.
