The gruesome murder of a police officer and an eyewitness by armed robbers at Adedenkpo, a suburb of James Town in Accra, on Monday, has left many Ghanaians on social media peeved and worried about the state of security in the country.
The unfortunate incident that occurred Monday afternoon has left the driver of the van carrying an undisclosed amount of money in a critical condition at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after the robbers fired indiscriminately.
Among those concerned are #FixTheCountry protestors who currently, are demanding good governance and accountability from the incumbent government.
These campaigners have hit hard with another hashtag #WeGoDemonstrate, to inform the government they would not back down until issues raised, which are leading to loss of lives and economic hardships, are addressed.
According to them, rather than focusing on saving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians, the police is investing time to prevent concerned citizens from holding the government accountable at the Court of Law.

So @GhPoliceService is reserving those cars to fight unarmed protesters whiles thieves and armed robbers take over the country. Sometimes I wonder whether we have police in this country so many daylight robbery. #WeGoDemonstrate

Seems these criminals are being emboldened each passing day. Unless you're attacked by these armed robbers, you'd think it's a joke. The state must protect the security personnel and her citizens at all cost. All lives matter chale! #WeGoDemonstrate - #FixTheCountry - korle-bu pic.twitter.com/LhLOPDTKve

Rise in daylight robberies
The country has recently recorded a surge in daylight robberies in the Greater Accra Region.
On Wednesday, June 9, a man was shot in the stomach in a daylight robbery by two armed men. He was pronounced dead 24 hours after being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.
Two armed men that same day, also broke into a forex bureau near Honeysuckle in Osu. They stormed the structure near the Police Station and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Some workers sustained injuries and were admitted to the 37 Military Hospital. The culprits in these two incidents are currently at large.
On Friday June 11, an unidentified man in an attempted robbery case, attacked the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder with registration number GE-8088-11 on the GIMPA- Fiesta Royale road.
He threw a big stone at the vehicle, smashing its glass door and tried to escape into a nearby bush. But he was arrested by the Police after the victim drew the Police's attention.
