Fire Service personnel not insured

The Accra District Fire Officer (DFO), Gilford Tetteh Adams, has called on government and insurance companies in the country to collaborate and insure fire personnel in the country. He said firemen are not insured and fighting fire becomes a problem as they fear for their lives. Speaking in an interview with Asempa News, DFO Tetteh Adams said insuring the personnel will motivate them to fight fire more effectively. He said over the years, several fire officers have died in the line of duty, yet there is no particular hospital for them to seek medical treatment unlike personnel of other security services. He said this is not encouraging fire personnel to carry out their duties with all the devotion required. DFO Adams therefore called on the government to allow firemen to access the Police Hospital for treatment since they have no designated hospital to go for treatment.
