Mr Lawrence Klutse, Ketu District Second in Command of the Ghana National Fire Service has asked the authorities to consider relocating the services station from Denu to Aflao which records the highest domestic fire accidents in the area.
Mr. Klutse made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday at the Aflao border where he led a team of firemen to put off fire that engulfed the engine compartment and the entire head of a Man Diesel Truck.
He said the late arrival of the team was due to heavy traffic and the delay in relaying information about the incident to the station at Denu.
The fire officer suggested that the station should have been strategically placed at Aflao.
The truck, WR 1069 X loaded with limestone was from Somanya to be delivered to CIM-Togo, a Portland Cement company in Lome Togo and was at the frontier at around 0610 hours when an explosion was heard from the engine compartment resulting in the fire.
The driver in-charge Mr Godfred Torto, who together with his mate escaped unhurt, lost his driving license and GHc150 to the fire, which also resulted in traffic jam in the area.
"The closer to the epi-centre of fire accidents in the area the better," he said.
Mr. Klutse reported that fire last Wednesday gutted a five-room residential apartment burning personal effects worth millions of cedis at Vui, near Keta.
All occupants, he said were left only with the attire they had on them when the fire was detected at about 2130 hours.
Mr Klutse said the cause of the Vui fire would be investigated following the claim by occupants that the house had been disconnected of electric power and that there was no open light inside.
He condemned the hostile attitude of the Vui community towards the firemen who had to race from Denu to put out the fire.
