The Asokwa suburb of the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, is the scene of a chaotic situation following multiple explosions at a gas station that resulted in widespread fires.
People within the community are reported to be running for dear life as they head away from the raging fires that have resulted from explosions from gas-filled cylinders at the ENGAS Filling Station.
Joy News correspondents in Kumasi say there is virtually a break down of law and order as drivers, in their haste to escape any dangers, ran into one another after disregarding traffic regulations.
The gas station is said to be some 400 metres from the Kumasi Sports Stadium, where the fires have caused several high tension electricity poles to torch off.
Scores of firemen are said to have managed to put down the main cylinders that set off the fires, however they are faced with fresh challenges as the fires have spread some 40 metres into residential areas.
Several cars have been burnt to ashes, while two fitting shops and a local restaurant have all been razed.
