The Black Maidens of Ghana secured a comfortable 3-1 advantage in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifier third-round first-leg tie against Guinea in Conakry on Saturday, April 16.
Captain of the side, Georgina Ayisha Aoyem opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the game to give the Maidens the needed start to the game. Aoyem latched onto the ball and slotted it into the net after Zuleiha had headed down Ghana's corner kick.
The second goal came shortly with Rasheeda Shahadu striking the ball from outside of the box into the right corner of the Guinea post to double Ghana's lead.
Guinea had an opportunity to pull one back before the halftime whistle but goalkeeper Amina Ahamadu was on hand to make a good save from the home side's chance. Constance Agyeman also saw her solo run to score ruled out for offside.
Both teams headed into recess with Ghana boasting a 2-0 scoreline but it was the Guineans who started the second half better as they pulled one back through an own goal just two minutes into the second period of the game.
However, Mariama Maltiti Iddi restored Ghana's two-goal advantage in the 59th minute of the game to make the score 3-1.
Hasaacas Ladies' Success Ameyaa should have made it 4-1 for Ghana but her header from her captain's cross came off the crossbar late in the game.
With a 3-1 advantage in Conakry, the Black Maidens will host Guinea at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday, April 30 for the second leg of the third round qualifier tie.
