Nana Okomfo Twumasiwah Konadu, a fetish priestess at Nsaba in the Agona District of the Central Region has denied reports that she sold her six-month old grandson to one Mrs Rosina Anderson, a Ghanaian based in Libya.
She said the story of alleged child trafficking levelled against her by an Accra Radio was not true and described it as a calculated attempt to damage her hard won reputation.
Nana Konadu said her daughter in-law who was having a mental problem gave birth to a baby boy about six months ago.
Nana Konadu said that as a result she started maltreating the baby child, adding that, the boy's mother was even alleged to have attempted to smash the head of the child against a wall and poisoning him.
She stated that the parents of her daughter in-law were informed and both families agreed that the baby should be separated from the mother.
According to Nana Konadu, the two families agreed that Mrs. Anderson should adopt the child.
She said Mrs Anderson agreed to take the child to Accra but she later had a telephone call indicating that she had sold her grandson to be taken to Libya, which was broadcast by Radio stations in Accra.
Nana Konadu stated that Mrs Anderson had already adopted the child and even bought a land to develop it for the child in appreciation for the fetish priestess' healing her from a stroke attack.
Mrs Esi Panfowah and Mr Kwame Akakpo, grandparents of the child confirmed that both families agreed that the baby should be adopted because of his mother's situation.
Mrs Panfowah mentioned the Assemblyman for Nsaba, Mr McKenzie Armah, as a witness and said there was no iota of truth in the alleged selling of their grand son.
When contacted, the Assemblyman confirmed that the family informed him of the child's adoption.
