A 35-year-old suspect who did not take kindly to being queried by an investigator as to why he did not report at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) as demanded went berserk and brutally assaulted the female investigator leaving her with tattered clothes.
The suspect, George Boakye, an accommodation agent at Odorkor in Accra, is alleged to have assaulted a 23-year-old lady and the case was reported first at DOVVSU where he appeared once and was asked to report at a later date.
Boakye, however, failed to report on that day and for a long time was not seen.
The investigator saw Boakye around Kaneshie some time later and confronted failed to report to the unit irritated, Boakye assaulted her tearing her dress in the process.
According to the Public Relations Officer of DOVVSU in Accra, Inspector Irene Oppong, about a month ago, a 23-year-old lady came to make a complaint that Boakye promised her a job.
She said the lady visited the suspect in his room at Odorkor, where there were no chairs so Boakye asked the lady to sit on the carpet while he went to the bathroom in the main compound of the house.
The PRO noted that on Boakye's return, he picked a pornographic CD and started showing it to the lady. The lady sensing danger attempted to leave the room but Boakye followed and assaulted her at the door.
She said the lady started shouting and this attracted other people to the scene.
A case of assault was reported at DOVVSU and Boakye was granted bail to report later.
The accused however, reported once at the unit and never went back.
Days after, the investigator in the case called the suspect and he insulted her on the phone and when the station officer of DOVVSU also called, Boakye retorted, "1 have not killed a human being so why are you disturbing me."
The PRO said on Friday, June 27, this year, the investigator spotted Boakye around Kaneshie and confronted him but Boakye became infuriated and assaulted the investigator and tore her uniform. The investigator reported the conduct of Boakye to her superiors and Boakye was subsequently arrested and charged, this time for assaulting a public officer.
