The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an urgent recall for Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte, specifically the Tetra Pak (250ml) and Canned (330ml Pétillante) variants, citing safety and regulatory concerns.
These products were found on the Ghanaian market and actively promoted on social media despite not being registered with the FDA.
In a statement, the FDA explained that the recall was necessary due to the importer’s violation of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), which mandates that all food and beverage products must be registered before distribution.
The regulator warned that the sale and distribution of the products were illegal, raising concerns about consumer safety.
The FDA also pointed out that the packaging and size of the products were misleading and could pose a risk of accidental alcohol ingestion by children.
To prevent any potential health hazards, the authority has ordered all retailers and wholesalers to immediately halt the sale and distribution of the recalled products.
Consumers have been strongly advised against purchasing or consuming them.
The FDA has instructed that all stocks be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or the FDA’s offices nationwide.
The importer has been sanctioned, and regulatory measures are being enforced to ensure compliance.
Reaffirming its commitment to public health and safety, the FDA has urged the public to report any instances of the sale of these products via its communication channels.
