The ceremony was attended by President Kufuor as well as the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama and ministers of state. Also present at the service was former UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, ex-president J.J Rawlings, Professor Atta-Mills and representatives of the various political parties. Her son, Gamel Nkrumah said his mother became fully integrated into Ghanaian society and adopted the country's culture as her own. In a speech read on behalf of the government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akuffo-Addo said the marriage between Madam Fathia and Dr Kwame Nkrumah signified the strong bond between Ghana and Egypt and Ghana's commitment to the unification of Africa.
