A physically challenged farmer and entrepreneur in the Sunyani West Municipality, Kofi Vinyo, is constructing a police post at the main checkpoint on the Odumase-Kwatire road.
Mr Vinyo, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwatire-based Kofi Vinyo Company Limited (KVCL), an agro-processing company, said he has already spent GH¢70,000 on the project.
According to him, the police post under construction should be completed and handed over to Ghana Police Service before the end of 2023.
The police post consists of washrooms for male and female personnel, a fully furnished air-conditioned office with a laptop computer and a dining room.
In an interview with JoyNews at Kwatire, Mr Vinyo explained that the police are essential security service providers, hence the need to support, motivate and inspire the personnel to do more to fight crime in the area.
He said, "You see the police under a tree enduring the harsh weather conditions daily, sometimes you do not see them at all, that is why we try our best to do the police post for the police service so that they can permanently be there and protect lives and property’’.
Mr Vinyo further stated that the construction of the police post also forms part of their corporate social responsibility.
Meanwhile, some residents of Kwatire have commended Mr Vinyo for the project, adding the police needed the support of everybody in fighting crime in the area.
They expressed worry about the surge in theft and burglary within the Odumase, Kwatire, and Adantia enclaves.
To bring sanity to the area, the residents appealed to the police to intensify patrols to stem drug abuse and peddling among the youth in the area.
