A 43-year-old farmer standing trial for an alleged rape at Ankaase near Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North district has been granted 20 million cedis bail by the Mankranso Magistrate Court.
Daniel Kofi Asumadu’s plea was not taken and he would re-appear on August 14.
He will also report once every two weeks to the Police.
Police Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto, told the court presided by Frank Owusu-Afriyie that in May this year, Asumadu invited Salamatu Yakubu, the complainant to his house one evening for a short discussion.
He said the accused proposed to have sex with her but the complainant declined and on her way back home, Asumadu followed her, held her from behind, pulled her down and forcibly had sex with her.
According to the prosecution, after the act Asumadu gave the complainant 40,000 cedis and warned her not to tell anybody or else he would kill her.
Chief Inspector Aheto said on June 4, the complainant reported the case to the Tepa police who arrested the accused and after investigation charged him with the offence.
