James Kwasi Cudjoe, Eastern Regional Chairman of Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU) of GTUC, last weekend expressed concern about the high fines imposed on drivers by the courts.
He therefore, called on drivers to be disciplined and observe motor traffic regulations to avoid the imposition of high fines and help reduce road accidents in the country.
Mr Cudjoe made the observation at the swearing-in of new executive members for Begoro Number One Branch of the union at Begoro.
The election supervised by Fanteakwa Electoral Commission retained four executive members unopposed for the next four years.
They were Alex Kwabena Amoama, Chairman, Kwame Sarpong, Secretary, Kwame Amfo-Antiri, First Trustee and J. B. Amankwah, Second Trustee.
Mr Daniel Owusu from Osino was elected Vice Chairman with 38 votes as against 30 votes received by Mr Emmanuel Okyere from Begoro.
Mr Cudjoe advised drivers to stop only at designated areas and appealed to transport owners to renew the roadworthy certificates of their vehicles regularly to avoid prosecution.
Mr Amoama, Chairman of the branch expressed appreciation to the members for the confidence reposed in them.
He announced that a colour television set would be presented to the best driver this year, under its best driver's award scheme introduced two years ago.
