Ice cream manufacturer, Fanmilk has intensified it campaign on 'Fanchoco School Caravan', educating children on hygiene and healthy-snacking habits.
The Fanchoco School Caravan aims to impact about 100,000 basic school children from a selected 180 schools in all the regions of the country.
In that regard, Fanmilk Ghana awarded winners of the 2021 wrapper collection promo under the Fanchoco school caravan project which took place at the Manhean TMA basic school.
Branch Manager of FanMilk Ghana, Frances Nadhia-Aryee explained further “we are here to reward the overall wrapper collectors in Manhean TMA who collected a collective amount of over 25000 wrappers and in the 100 schools that we went to, we collected about 1.5 wrappers and this I am very proud of to say we are a part of the Fanmilk Ghana Limited,” she noted.
Launched in 2017, the Fanchoco School Caravan programme aims at sensitizing primary school children aged 8-13 on the impact of plastic waste on the environment and on healthy eating and snacking. The goal is to touch one million lives of primary school children by 2030.
“What we did realize was that there were lot of issues around plastic waste management in this country which caused a lot of floods even when it rained, so our initiative in the schools was to be able to sensitize kids because we know If you train a child in a way he should grow, when he grows he will not go wayward,” she added.
Since the COVID- 19 pandemic, the programme now also includes education on adhering to COVID-19 hygiene protocols of mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing to ensure every one’s safety. Today, the caravans’ next stop was the Manhean TMA.
Nadhia further indicated that “this year 2021, we added another level to this initiative which was the sensitization on adhering to the protocols of COVID-19 and I’m glad to say that we’ve not had a lot of incidences when it comes to the schools that we have gone to because the children have adhered to some of the education that we sent to them.”
The children were taught how to properly dispose of waste and choose healthier snacking options.
