The family of a 60-year-old armed robbery suspect are appealing to the government to intervene to enable the suspect receive medical attention.
The family fears that Inussah Emmanuel, aka Jato, might not make it to the next hearing of his court case if the police persist in keeping him in custody, after he complained of severe pains in the legs and also embarked on a hunger strike.
The Ejura Police in Ashanti say they arrested Inussah about a fortnight ago after a shootout which resulted in the death of a colleague of the suspect. The suspects were alleged to have mounted a road block at Pramso on the Ejura – Mampong road to facilitate a criminal activity. Iddrisu Yakubu did not survive the shootout with the police.
The Mampong Police have disputed the family’s claims and said the leg pains complained of by the suspect had long healed.
Again, the police said the suspect was eating well and was in no danger whatsoever, and would definitely make the next trial date on Friday at the Nusta circuit court.
