The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantekyi has told Joy Sports his outfit would deal drastically with any team whose supporters are found guilty of hooliganism by the disciplinary committee of the FA.
The disciplinary committee has a barrage of cases before it which the FA says it would soon clear.
The Premier League and other tournaments have been dogged with problems brought on largely by supporters’ misbehaviour on the stands.
A recent encounter between Hearts of Oak and Bechem Chelsea at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium and another match between Kotoko and Ashgold in Obuasi both ended in clashes which the FA says it is still investigating.
Mr Nyantakyi said hooligalism and violence must be punished severely to deter supporters from engaging in them.
“We need to impose the highest punishment so that it becomes a huge disincentive for anybody to engage in violence,” he said.
“It is an act of barbarism for anybody to resort to violence; it has no place at all in the modern football equation and I don’t think we should entertain it at all.”
