Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has called for the need for people in authority to exhibit moral strength founded on the values of respect, honesty, fairness, tolerance, thrift and self-sacrifice.
"Even a very talented leader cannot expect to be trusted by others without moral strength," he observed.
Vice President Mahama made the observation, when he addressed the closing ceremony of a four-day workshop for Muslim Leaders in West Africa, organised by the Saudi Arabia based World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and the Al-hudaibiyya Relief Services Centre.
It was attended by 100 participants drawn from Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and Togo, who were exposed to topics such as: "Self Management," "Success Planning," "Practical Thinking" and "Speech Delivery."
Vice President Mahama said: "The ability to inspire and motivate other people requires vision, initiative, perseverance, courage, confidence and knowledge; for these principles to work however, there must be a solid moral foundation."
He noted that it is time for a new generation of leaders to join hands to lift the quality of leadership to a level of confidence where their subjects will be empowered with visionary initiatives to courageously battle poverty and hunger.
"Such a partnership that bridges generations of leadership will inspire and motivate our people to take their destiny into their own hands and bring about fundamental changes in their lives."
Vice President Mahama called on the participants to be part of the future and allow their voices of change to be heard, adding; "Serve your people and participate in governance to consolidate the practice of democracy in Africa.”
Dr. Khalid Al-Ujiami of WAMY said the workshop would be extended to Nigeria.
