Former employees of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority have appealed to Parliament to come out with a final decision on a petition over their entitlements. More than 4000 workers, who were laid off some eight years ago as a result of a restructuring exercise, have still not been paid their benefits. The workers have objected to compensation packages from their former employers because they say it is inadequate. Five of them took legal action at the Tema High Court against GHAPOHA for breaching the Collective Bargaining Agreement whilst the rest filed a fresh suit against the authority to claim monies due them as endorsed by the Supreme Court. In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament the leader of the former workers Stephen Ashitey Adjei appealed to the House to take a decision on the report submitted by the Joint Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises and Transport.
