A District Magistrate Court at Kade, has sentenced Amakye Kennedy, a 28-year-old barber, to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a goat valued at GH¢50.
The court additionally ordered the convict, to pay GH¢70 as compensation to the owner of the goat, Agnes Amawuda.
Kennedy, who recently returned from prison after serving 12 months in jail for stealing, pleaded guilty.
Police Inspector D.T. Nartey said the complainant was rearing two goats in her house, near the Boadua market and the convict lived at Kade.
Prosecution said on November 11, at about 1:00 a.m., a witness in the case saw Kennedy kill a goat by twisting its neck and hid it between bags of charcoal and attempted to kill another goat.
Inspector Nartey said that when the witness tried to arrest the convict, he struggled with him (witness) and he raised the alarm.
Some people assisted the witness to overpower Kennedy and he was sent to the Akwatia Police station.
Prosecution said Amawuda went to the Police station and identified the dead goat as belonging to her.
Inspector Nartey said Kennedy in a caution statement to the Police admitted the offence.
Kennedy told the court that he wanted to sell the goat to enable him buy barbering tools.
