A young man believed to be in his late teens, who on Wednesday allegedly robbed a young lady at knife-point at the Ahinsan Gate, one of the entry points of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been arrested by the University’s security personnel.
John Donkor, an ex-convict who was only released from prison the previous day after serving a 13-month jail term at the Kumasi Central Prisons was said to have robbed Anastasia Aggine of her handbag, which contained an unspecified amount of money, a mobile phone and other personal effect.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday, Captain M.B. Gedzah (Rtd), Head of Security at KNUST said at about 1100 hours, the victim who was heading towards the University Campus was held hostage by Donkor when she got to the Ahinsan Gate.
Donkor then ordered her at knife-point to surrender her handbag, which she quickly obliged.
The Head of Security said, the victim then shouted for help and Mr Boakye Ansah Duah, a student who was then weeding in his farm, responded to her call for help and arrested Donkor.
Donkor was handed-over to the KNUST Security who transferred him to the personnel of Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Kumasi Central Police.
