English premier league side Chelsea FC’s midfield dynamo Michael Essien has admitted that retaining the premier league title is a long shot away but the win against Manchester United has shown exactly what Chelsea is all about.
This is contained in Essien’s latest blog on his website, www.michaelessiengh.com.
Essien, who was voted Man-of-the-Match after putting up a splendid performance against Manchester United believes the win proves Chelsea is still a force to reckon with.

Hello everyone,
I have decided to blog about the Man United game - not because I was voted man of the match but because that game showed exactly what Chelsea is all about.
I have to admit the title is a distant dream now and although we are mathematically in with a chance, it will be a tall order to defend our crown. Somehow we may have opened the door for Arsenal. However we will keep pushing and who knows what will happen. As they say football is a funny old game.
More importantly we proved on March 1 that we are still a force to be reckoned with. Against Man United the Blues stood up and were counted. We went a goal down but still played with good spirit and determination which paid off in the end.
We knew we had to fight not to disappoint the fans and that ’s exactly what we did.
We pushed on all fronts and the swagger in our play was back to its best. The movement and drive was there for all to see and that's what pleased the whole team. We didn’t drop our heads but rather held it high and wanted to show we are still no pushovers.
Since the game, I have watched the highlights a few times and have enjoyed seeing the fans excited and pleased with our fighting spirit and performance. Thank you all for showing faith in us and for sticking with the team.
It’s brilliant for our confidence and hopefully we will keep on going to the end of the season. We are looking good in the Champions League and we will definitely be fighting for what’s left of the season.
I will like to ask one question before I sign off - who does David Luiz remind you of?
Personally I think he is the new Ricardo Carvalho both in terms of his structure, hair style, beautiful play and no nonsense attitude. He can score as well just like Riccy used to and when he got the equaliser it reminded me of Riccy's goal against Man United when Chelsea won 3 - 0 at Stamford Bridge.
I knew Fernando's quality because I have seen him play many times but I was pleasantly surprised by David Luiz and I have to say both of them have slotted in nicely and are really nice guys.
A big thanks to all of you who read and contributed to the last blog about press conferences. I had a blast writing that blog and had a bigger blast reading some of your comments and other press conferences I hadn’t seen. It is an art without a doubt...
Anyway enjoy the rest of the month and be good!
Ess
