Kumasi Asante Kotoko succeeded in beating Sekondi Hasaacas by a goal to nil at the Essipong Sports Stadium, Sekondi on Sunday.
Eric Donkor rescued the day for the Porcupine Warriors with 3 minutes into the 5 minutes of added time to give his side a lifeline in the league.
The dethroned league champions, ahead of this game were battling relegation after the Disciplinary Committee declared them losers of the 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak on match day 25, after the Phobians protest against the ineligibility of Obed Owusu was upheld.
Kotoko had a goal in the first half disallowed by referee Amenya.
Back from recess, the Giants of the West got close to earning the opener, after they had a player fouled in the 18-yard box, but their appeal for a penalty was rejected.
Before Kotoko in the 80 minute were awarded a penalty, but the veteran goalkeeper, George Owusu saved Eric Donkor’s kick from the spot.
However, just as the game was heading to a goalless draw that Eric Donkor atoned for his miss from the spot kick to fetch Kotoko the goal that gave them all the three maximum points.
Kotoko have now lifted themselves from the drop zone to 10th on the league log with a game remaining.
