The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has issued a warning against illegal sand winning along the country’s beaches.
Speaking to JoyNews, the EPA Chief Executive, Prof. Nana Ama Brown Klutse, stated that extracting sand without proper licensing from the EPA is unlawful.
She made this statement during a visit to assess the destruction caused by tidal waves in Agavedzi, Salakofe, and Amutinu, all within the Keta municipality of the Volta Region.
Prof. Klutse stressed that sand winning in Keta, a low-lying area, significantly increases the municipality’s vulnerability to coastal erosion and environmental disasters.
