The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has sent out a word of caution to some industries sited in the Greater Accra Region to desist from engaging in activities that negatively impact the environment.
The EPA embarked on a 4-day tour from March 2-5, to sensitize the administrators of 11 companies located in Tema and its environs about the adverse effect of pollution.
The companies visited include Cocoa Producing Company, Tema Development Corporation, GHACEM Limited, PSC Tema Shipyard Limited, Harbor Area, Tema Oil Refinery, Simon Asoglie Power, Sentuo Resources Limited, Tema Port Expansion (meridian service) among others.
Executive Director of the Agency, Henry Kwabena Kokofu said there had been several complaints to the EPA about some hazardous products from industries that had found their way to some residential and crowded areas.
This, according to him, left many lives and properties exposed to corrosive and dangerous products.
Mr Kwabena Kokofu urged the companies to find better ways of addressing the issue of indiscriminate waste disposal.
He lauded the administrators of Recylers Ghana Limited for recycling waste products that when unattended, destroy the environment.
In response to his request, Chief Executive Officer of PSC Tema Shipyard Company, Dr Alexander Yaw Adunsei Jnr, together with other administrators expressed gratitude to the EPA for its support and ensuring the laid down rules are followed to the latter.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is an agency under the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, established by EPA Act 490, dedicated to improving, conserving and promoting the country’s environment.
