As part of our ongoing series on educational opportunities abroad, we had the pleasure of sitting down with two key figures from AHZ Ghana: Taiwo Olayinka Olatunbosun, representing AHZ in Ghana, and Wendy Otu, Senior Counsellor at AHZ Ghana and a British Council Certified professional.
In this insightful discussion, Taiwo and Wendy shared their perspectives on how AHZ is helping Ghanaian students gain admission into prestigious UK institutions and the broader benefits of studying in the UK.
Why Study in the UK?
AHZ has earned a reputation for connecting Ghanaian students with top UK universities, making it one of the leading representatives of UK institutions in Ghana. When asked why studying in the UK is such a valuable opportunity for Ghanaian students, Taiwo highlighted the UK’s strong educational heritage, world-renowned universities, and the opportunity for students to gain a global perspective. "Studying in the UK not only offers academic excellence but also exposes students to a multicultural environment, enhancing both their personal and professional development," Taiwo emphasized.
Wendy added that UK degrees are highly regarded globally and offer a competitive edge in the job market. “It’s a great investment in the future. UK institutions focus on both academic achievement and practical skills, ensuring that students are well-rounded and ready for the global job market,” she explained.
Impact of Currency Fluctuations on Studying Abroad
The cedi’s fluctuation against foreign currencies has become a growing concern for many Ghanaians. When asked how this impacts the interest in studying abroad, particularly in the UK, Wendy acknowledged that the devaluation of the cedi poses challenges for families. However, she reassured that AHZ is committed to working closely with students and their families to explore scholarship opportunities, payment plans, and other financial aids. "We try to guide families on making financially sound decisions, and many UK universities offer scholarships or flexible payment plans to ease the burden," Wendy said.
Skills Transfer and Economic Benefits to Ghana
Many Ghanaians who study abroad return with valuable skills, and this trend has the potential to greatly benefit the Ghanaian economy. Taiwo discussed how Ghana can tap into this pool of talent by creating environments that allow returnees to apply their knowledge and skills. “The government and private sector need to engage these young professionals by offering opportunities that encourage innovation and development,” he advised. "When students come back, they are equipped with modern skills in technology, business, healthcare, and more—these are the talents Ghana needs to grow."
Avoiding Fraudulent Education Agencies
Unfortunately, fraudulent education agencies have become a significant problem, with some students falling victim to scams. Wendy shared practical advice for students to avoid such traps. “Always research the agency you are working with. Look for their accreditation, check for testimonials, and ensure they have a legitimate relationship with the institutions they claim to represent,” she urged. AHZ Ghana is renowned for its reliability and transparency, offering students peace of mind through its quality services. "Our priority is to make sure students are confident and well-prepared throughout the entire process," Wendy said.
The Upcoming UK Education Fair
AHZ Ghana is organizing a UK Education Fair, and it promises to be an exciting opportunity for prospective students. Taiwo provided insights on what attendees can expect: “The fair will feature representatives from some of the top UK universities, offering students a chance to interact directly with admissions officers and learn about the various programs available. It's a one-stop event where students can get information on courses, scholarships, and visa processes.” The fair will also provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, clarify doubts, and receive guidance on the next steps for studying in the UK.
A Message to Aspiring Ghanaian Students
As the conversation wrapped up, Wendy shared a message for Ghanaian students aspiring to study in the UK: “The journey to studying abroad may seem overwhelming, but with the right support, it is achievable. UK education offers endless opportunities, not only academically but personally and professionally. We at AHZ are here to guide you every step of the way.”
Taiwo echoed her sentiments, adding, “The UK is one of the best places to get an education that can set you up for global success. Take that leap, and don’t hesitate to seek support from us at AHZ Ghana.”
For Ghanaian students eager to explore the world-class educational opportunities that the UK offers, AHZ Ghana’s upcoming UK Education Fair is the perfect place to start. It is more than just an event; it’s a gateway to endless possibilities.
