Head of Chiropractic Centre in Kumasi has observed Ghanaian workers are paying dearly for seeking medical care only when their conditions have reached advanced stages.
Dr. Marcus Manns says labour policies and physical office set-up have placed emphasis on providing curative medical care for employees at the expense of prevention, especially, of work-related ailment.
At a ceremony to mark 116 years of global chiropractic practice, he told Luv News the trend negatively affects productivity.
Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system.
Dr. Marcus Manns says industry could save a lot of productive hours workers spend at health facilities, seeking treatment for aggravated conditions.
This, according to him, can be achieved by encouraging regular medical check-up for workers and other measures like provision of appropriate chairs to promote good sitting habits.
He says industry is not keenly aware of health, energy and focus of workers is directly related to the success.
Dr Manns believes until people look at well-being as an investment and not as an expense, industry will continue prioritizing in the wrong direction.
“Money is getting invested in the wrong places, they get invested in patch up, you go to your employer and you give him your health bill, and each year the bill keeps going up and up, and no one is trying to find the root cause of the ailment, when in most cases it’s in our failure to seek early treatment”, he stated.
