The Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), Raphael Godlove Ahenu, has advised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be mindful of the kinds of postmortem being conducted on the just-ended general election.

He said the reasons the party has been ascribing to their massive loss in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections are farfetched.

In an interview at Sunyani, he stated that it would be prudent for the NPP to acknowledge that its performance in government was subpar rather than deceive itself and its members.

“Since the governing NPP lost the December 7 election to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), I have been listening to Dr Bawumia and the NPP claiming that over a million voters, being their members, did not vote, resulting in their loss.

Even if this claim is true, it raises the question of why the over 12 million who did vote also did not vote for the NPP,” Mr Ahenu quizzed.

He said the selection of Dr Bawumia as the presidential candidate and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate raises concerns about the party's decision-making process.

“I must state that it was political suicide for the NPP to pair Dr Bawumia and Dr Opoku Prempeh.

Similarly, the appointment of Abronye and Wontumi as regional Chairmen, who criticised based on party lines and not on policies, questions the credibility of the NPP executives at the regional level,” he added.

Mr Ahenu said the NPP must know the Jubilee House is not an entertainment centre because Dr Bawumia was seen dancing on campaign platforms and busy attacking John Mahama’s policies instead of selling his policies.

He noted that the NPP never took the time to interrogate why President Akuffo Addo, Dr Opoku Prempeh, Vice President Dr Bawumia, and Chairman Wontumi on all campaign platforms campaign for John Mahama.

He further said the NPP’s loss has more reasons than mere claims that their supporters did not come out to vote.

“My advice to the NPP is to do a total overhauling of its leadership right from the national level to the constituency level and conduct a thorough research on what led to this shameful defeat,” he stated.

According to Mr Ahenu, this will help the Great Elephant family reorganise and restructure to identify the real factors for the loss while initiating pragmatic measures to address the issues as quickly as possible.
