The Judicial Service of Ghana has assured the public of its readiness to handle all election-related cases swiftly and fairly before, during, and after the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
According to the service, this will be done under the strict guidance of the provisions made in the new 'Manual on Election Adjudication; the 5th edition.'
This assurance was given at a high-level dialogue session in Accra between the Judiciary's leadership and the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) from the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 22, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, alongside the Judiciary’s Elections Management Committee chaired by His Lordship Paul Baffoe-Bonnie JSC, and the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng JA, assure Ghanaians of the Courts' readiness to swiftly deal with election-related cases under the strict guidance of the newly-released 5th edition of the Manual on Election Adjudication.
The Chairman of the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, highlighted the proactive measures taken by the Judiciary to ensure preparedness.
On his part, the Eminent Persons Group (EPG), co-chaired by Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo, who met with the Chief Justice to assess the Judiciary’s preparedness for the 2024 elections said the group was made up of "religious leaders from various faiths across Ghana, who have come together to promote peace, unity and stability through high-level engagements before, during and after elections 2024".
The group described the meeting as "very informative and fruitful," and pledged to spread the Judiciary's message of readiness as they continue their peacebuilding efforts.
Chief Justice Torkornoo reassured Ghanaians to have full confidence in the judicial arm of government, and that the Judiciary is fully prepared to handle election cases with independence and impartiality.
She added, that "Ghana's Judiciary is a very prepared one, independent, and would never do anything to derail the peace of the country".
