President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Ghana, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi

The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference has issued a strong warning to political parties against engaging in violence.

According to Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, such activities could destabilise the country before, during, and after the December 7th general elections.

Most Rev. Gyamfi emphasised that they will resist any political party that seeks to incite political violence.

“If we Christians and religious people with love for our nation speak peace before, during and after the election, we will become formidable enough to prevent any political party or agent from perpetrating violence in our nation.”

He also reminded citizens, especially the Christian community, to stand firm against violence and learn from past mistakes.

This message was delivered during his sermon at the 10th National Sacred Heart of Jesus Congress and the Golden Jubilee of the National Sacred Heart of Jesus Enthronement Centre at the Tamale Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

“By our actions and love for our country, we should make it unequivocally clear and powerfully so to all that we Ghanaians are fed up with violence. We have gone through a lot in the past. We would not want to get into that situation. And therefore we will not permit any political party or agent to plunge the nation into violence. We will resist," he stated.
