Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed confidence in the Ghanaian youth in ensuring peace, before, during, and even after the upcoming December 7 general elections.
In their quest for political power, some unscrupulous politicians have over the years employed the services of deviant elements among the youth to perpetrate excesses during elections.
But addressing a parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the cadet corps of Ghana at the Black Star Square on Monday, Dr Bawumia said he is convinced that the youth will exhibit their constitutional right in the upcoming elections and still maintain the peace.
"On this day, we are gathered to look at the role the youth of this beautiful country can play in maintaining peace and stability before, during and after the coming election under the theme; “Empowering Ghana’s Youth for Peace and Stability towards Development,” the Vice President said.
At a parade that saw about twenty thousand members of the national cadet corps engage in drills, the Vice President reiterated his conviction about the role of the youth in ensuring peaceful elections.
"This is not the first time, and I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the youth of this country will exhibit their constitutional right diligently in electing who will lead us for the next four (4) years peacefully. I mean peacefully before, during, and after the upcoming election on December 7th", the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) said.
Dr Bawumia also floated the idea for the 1st of July to be set aside every year as a National Youth Day for the Republic of Ghana since there is no day set aside in Ghana for the youth as it is done in other countries.
