Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor Stephen Adei has said the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to retain a second term in government.
According to the educationist, his assessment of present preparations towards the impending presidential and parliamentary election suggest that the governing party is so far the electorates' favourite.
“I think things are loaded in favour of NPP. First of all, when Rawlings created the Upper West Region, they voted almost 100 per cent for the NDC for almost 20 years. Akufo-Addo has created six new regions, and I think that it will impact the elections greatly," he noted.
The former GIMPA rector was speaking during an interaction with Joy News’ Daniel Dadzie Monday, where he also stated that President Akufo-Addo’s record in education and road infrastructure will enure to his benefit as Ghana heads towards the December 2020 polls.
"I think that Ghanaians are going to vote on the basis of about three things. One is education, and I think the dice is in favour of NPP.
"They're also going to vote on roads...the NPP has not done worse than NDC, therefore, it's not going to be too much in favour of any party,".
Per his assessment, the Akufo-Addo-led political party has a stronghold in Akan ethnic areas, which gives them an urge over the opposition NDC. Hence, another advantage.
Professor Stephen Adei is an educationist, writer, economist and motivational speaker. He also serves as Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The academic was the former head of the UN System in South Africa, UNDP Resident Representative in Namibia, Economist and Chief of the Directorate of Africa Bureau, UNDP before leaving the UN.
