EKGS Culinary Institute a leading hospitality training and service company on Wednesday launched its 25th anniversary at a ceremony on the school’s premises at Ordorkor Chabar a suburb of Accra.
The ceremony which was used to launch the culinary company’s new logo saw both present and old students present under the theme: 25 Years of Culinary Excellence.

A year-long celebration will see activities including a donation to an orphanage home, a day of skills sharing, a get-together and a thanksgiving service to climax the programme.
Delivering her welcome address, EKGS Chief Executive, Efua Otua Goode Obeng Kyei said the silver jubilee anniversary launch marks a new direction into a sustainable future.
She said the school’s current status was achieved by the dent of hard work.

She noted that the school which was formerly known as EKGS Enterprise was established by her late father Ebenezer K. Goode in 1991 as a service provider in the hospitality industry adding that after 7years of operations, the company evolved to EKGS Culinary Institute that propelled the dream which kicked started the training of professionals in the pastry and sugar craft in tourism subsector.

The institute’s first batch of students admitted were 6 trainees who graduated after 6 months, graduating on July 18, 1998.
From this humble beginning, according to Madam Obeng Kyei, EKGS Culinary Institute has seen a significant rise in student population and has now become a household name in the training of qualified professionals in the Pastry/ Cake and Sugarcraft business in Ghana.

She noted that the institute has successfully trained and graduated over 7,500 students in West and East Africa over the past 25 years.
Touting the school’s achievement, Mrs Obeng Kyei said EKGS Culinary Institute has two international awards.

She says her school was accredited by America's Wilton International to run their courses in Ghana and award certificates to students, an achievement she describes as historic.
Madam Obeng Kyei was the Chairperson of the Ghana branch of the International Cake Exploration Society based in the US.

Madam Obeng Kyei, during her tenure as Chairperson, organised a number of cake exhibitions in America to showcase Kente and Adinkra cakes which won her recognition in the global culinary industry.
She says there is a huge economic potential available in the industry which she believes will reduce poverty as well as provide jobs to improve the living standards for a large number of the population.

“There is, therefore, the need to encourage all those interested in working in this booming economic space to do so," said Mrs Obeng Kyei.

She expressed her institution’s commitment to train high quality professionals to make the school more relevant to meet the changing demands in the 21st century.
