The Ashanti Regional Police command has in its possession a blood-stained club believed to have been used by the assailants of a social activist in Ejura.
The killing of 45-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Kaaka Macho, sparked protest resulting in the shooting to death of two and injury to others.
The club, described by police as one of the dangerous implements used by the attacker(s) of Kaaka, was picked at the entrance of the deceased's Ejura home, House Number Plot 267 Block H, at the Dagomba Line.
Police were led to the scene by a complainant in the case and a brother of Kaaka Macho, one Haruna Mohammed, who pointed to the entrance and the club on June 27, 2021.
The club was retrieved for evidential purposes after photographs had been taken by the Crime Scene personnel of the Police Criminal Investigations Department.
According to police prosecutors, Ibrahim Mohammed’s assailants armed with dangerous implements first attacked his occipital region till he became unconscious at about 01:30 a.m on June 26, 2021, whilst returning home on his motorbike.
The club has become an important exhibit in police investigations.
A source close to the Ashanti Regional Police Command says the club would be subjected to forensic analysis at the police crime laboratory as police conduct criminal investigations into the murder of Kaaka Macho who left behind a wife and five children.
The club provides police investigators with materials such as blood, fingerprints and other materials for forensic analysis, says Joy News police source.
Even when he became unconscious, the accused did not stop but continued beating him.
The accused persons then left him in a pool of blood in that unconscious state and absconded.
Kaaka was later sent to the Ejura Government Hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was on admission until his death on June 28, 2021, at 01:40 am.
Police investigations have since led to the arrest of three people, including an elder brother of the late Kaaka, identified as Iddi Mohammed, also known as Chuburos, a Blacksmith.
The others are Fuseini Alhassan, a butcher and Ibrahim Issaka also known as Anyars, a ticket seller.
The two were arrested on the evening of June 27, 2021 by the Ejura police with the assistance of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams from the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, following police intelligence.
Personnel from the two units had earlier been deployed to protect lives and property after police had picked intelligence of plans by some irate youth of Ejura to set ablaze both the Ejura police station and the offices of the Ejura-Sekyeredumase Municipal Assembly.
The three suspects have since been remanded into police custody by the Asokwa District Court presided by Akua Adu Boahen to reappear on July 22, 2021.
All three were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and murder under Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960.
