Eight people, including four children, have been injured after a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle overturned on the Tema–Akosombo Highway at Teye-Kwame, in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The crash occurred after the vehicle suffered a rear tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control before it somersaulted, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The Kpong Fire Station responded to the accident and rescued the occupants of the vehicle, who were left with injuries following the crash.

The GNFS said the victims comprised four adults and four children. They were taken to Kings and Queens Hospital at Akuse Junction for medical attention.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about road safety on major highways, where vehicle maintenance issues, including tyre failures, contribute to serious crashes.

Transport and road safety authorities have frequently advised motorists to inspect their vehicles regularly, particularly tyres and other critical components, before embarking on journeys.
