The Managing Editor of the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Egbert Faibille has cautioned critics from playing cheap politics with reports of guerrilla training camp in Bawku. The newspaper on Wednesday splashed on its front page pictures of young men wielding sophisticated weapons and being taken through rigorous combat and other ambush tactics. The report has provoked different responses, some accusing the paper of misleading the general public, arguing, the pictures were taken late last year. ACP Bright Oduro Upper East Regional Police Commander intimated the reports of a guerrilla camp came to their attention some time last year and were feverishly working to find the culprits. “We had information last year that such a thing took place there last year, but as to which tribe was doing the training, we can’t tell,” he said, adding investigations were still underway. But in an interview with Joy News’ Evans Mensah on Wednesday, Mr. Faibille said the concern of Ghanaians must be the security threat the presence of the training camp poses to the country and not necessarily which party was behind it or when the camp was started. “If the police claim these are pictures taken last year, where are the people, what did they do about it. They sat down notwithstanding what the constitution says, that no private army can be raised in Ghana,” he chided. “In all of this our apprehension is not about whether it is the NPP or the NDC that is doing this. It is about the security of the nation called Ghana,” he said, charging the police to arrest the situation. He maintains the pictures on the front page of his paper were current with a stamp of authenticity, contrary to assertions that they were taken last year. Mr. Faibille said he will expose with video evidence high profile names he claimed are behind the illicit guerrilla training camp in Bawku.
