Ecom, a leading global commodity merchant and sustainable supply chain Management Company picked three awards at the 18th Edition of the Ghana Club 100 Awards in Accra.
The company’s subsidiary, Agro-Ecom Ghana Limited was ranked the 10th Best Company in Ghana as well as the best new entrant into Ghana club 100. Its logistics subsidiary, KITEKO Ghana Limited was adjudged the 26th best company in Ghana.
The awards ceremony was organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) under the theme: “Agriculture: The Bedrock of Ghana's Economy".
Commenting on the awards, the Country Director of Ecom Ghana, Mr Muhammadu Muzzammil said: “We achieved this because of our passion working towards building wealth for farmers and our entrepreneurial spirit that continuously brings innovation to our business practices.”
The awards were received on behalf of the company by Muhammadu Muzzammil S, Country Director of Ecom Ghana, Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi, General Manager of KITEKO Ghana and Andy A. Bonsu, Acting General Manager, Agro-Ecom Ghana Limited.
The company operates five subsidiaries including AgroEcom Ghana Limited; Crop Doctor Ghana Limited; KITEKO Ghana Limited; Sustainable Management Services and UNICOM Commodities Ghana Ltd. 6000 people work directly and indirectly with Ecom Ghana.
Over 150,000 farmers are presently benefiting from the company’s entrepreneurship initiatives which are geared towards helping build rural prosperity. Ecom Ghana provides advisory services, training and support to farmers on productivity, quality, certification, crop diversification, environmental and other broader social issues.
The company is a long-term trade partner to Ghana Cocoa Board. Its subsidiaries, Agro Ecom Ghana Limited and Unicom Commodities Ghana Ltd. in partnership with COCOBOD, operates the largest sustainability program in Ghana to provide traceable and sustainable cocoa from Ghanaian farmers to chocolate manufacturers in Europe and USA.
Ecom actively invests in farmer capacity building to move them from subsistence farming to farming as a business through coaching on best practices.
The company also engages in additional livelihood projects that support income diversity. Ecom, through its subsidiary Crop Doctor; provides High-Quality Agro Chemicals and Farm implements at affordable prices to enhance farm productivity.
In 2009, KITEKO Ghana Limited was incorporated as a subsidiary of Ecom Ghana to provide transport and logistics services. KITEKO Ghana Limited runs a large logistics fleet of 200 trucks and 60,000 sqm of warehousing space for efficient operations. It hauls for AgroEcom Ghana Limited and UNICOM Commodities Ghana Ltd.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, Ecom Ghana has provided infrastructure developments in Health, Access to Potable Water and Education. The company has refurbished 7 hospitals and 35 schools, installed over 300 boreholes, distributed 50 computer classrooms and invested GHS1.4 million with the Otumfuo AgroEcom mobile learning platform, providing ICT training to rural kids.
