The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is urging it's customers to use the ECG Power App and USSD short code *226# to access services instead of visiting the various offices during the coronavirus outbreak.
This directive is to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus by reducing the number of customers who would visit the service centres.
Ghana has already recorded over 195 cases with five deaths and 31 recoveries.
The Volta Regional General Manager of ECG, Ing Delali Oklu in an interview with Joy News urged customers with smart prepaid meters and postpaid meters to use the ECG Power App to purchase credit and pay bills respectively.
He added that clients can also report faults via the app and advised non smartphone users to resort to the use of the USSD Shortcode *226# to pay their bills.
"With the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country, we urge our customers especially postpaid customers in Volta and Oti regions to download the ECG Power App on google play store or App Store to pay their bills.
If you are using a postpaid meter, you only need your account number after downloading the app to pay your bill without visiting any of our offices", he said.
He, additionally, indicated that measures have been instituted at the regional office in Ho, to ensure the safety of staff and clients who would wish to visit the service centre for business or inquiries.
All front-line officers have been provided with personal protective equipment, while hand hygiene materials have been situated at vantage points.
The security post has also been detailed with an infrared thermometer to help screen customers before they enter the premises.
"Veronica buckets, liquid soaps, disinfectants and hand sanitisers have been provided to enable our staff and customers to wash their hands under running water", said Ing Oklu.
He indicated that his outfit is not oblivious of the fact that demand for power during this period would increase, hence, adequate measures have been put in place to ensure stable power supply across the country.
