The Electricity Company of Ghana PowerApp has been updated with features to ensure a full complement of operating a cashless system at the power distribution company.
The new features include statements, viewing bills, and payment history, with smart prepaid meters customers in the Volta Region being able to view their consumption history.
The Volta Regional General Manager of ECG, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, announced this during the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s first sessional meeting in Ho.
The meeting was attended by the Volta Regional Minister, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Regional Heads of Department, reps from the House of Chiefs, security agencies, and staff of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
According to Ms. Jatoe-Kaleo, the features were introduced to the ECG Power App to meet the demands of customers and ensure their satisfaction, as they form the nerve of the company.
She further indicated that using the ECG PowerApp or the short code, *226#, to transact business does not attract MoMo charges or E-levy and encouraged customers to make use of the cashless system.
“So all customers should visit the google play store or AppStore and download or update the ECG PowerApp to pay their bills or purchase prepaid credit. After downloading the app, once you key in your meter or account number, your details will pop up and you are certain those details are yours, click on 'this is correct button' to save your meter and follow the prompts”, she said.
Ms. Jatoe- Kaleo outlined that the ECG PowerApp allows customers to transact business with the power distribution company anywhere and anytime, providing real-time updates on their payments while enabling customers to report faults.
“If you make a transaction and your MoMo account is debited after the transaction fails, the system will automatically refund your money to your PowerApp wallet “, she added.
Madam Jatoe-Kaleo reminded the gathering of the two-month nationwide revenue mobilization exercise dubbed "Operation Zero" which entreated customers to pay their bills to avoid disconnection and enable ECG to mobilize enough revenue to sustain the electricity supply chain.
She reiterated a call on the general public to assist the company root out people consuming power illegally to save the company from running at losses.
“Some people are in our respective municipal and district assemblies as well as communities who are using power, but are not paying or not in the ECG system as a result of obtaining meters through illegal sources or faulty meters, so let’s try and report these people or else we will be paying for power consumed whiles they consume for free,” she said.
She added that the revenue mobilization exercise also targets customers and companies that were given a moratorium, hence they must visit the ECG Office for their electricity supply to be regularized in the system.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa underscored the importance of electricity to the socio-economic growth of this country, and called on the public to support ECG by paying their bills promptly.
