The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has began the second phase of its revenue mobilisation exercise in the Volta and Oti Regions.

In a statement copied to Myjoyonline.com, the Acting Volta Regional Commercial Manager, Solomon Adjiku, indicated that customers have responded positively to the call for payment, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the ECG's efforts to ensure a sustainable electricity supply.

He added that institutions such as the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho Technical University, Abutia Stone Quarry, and Volta Serene Hotel among others have started settling their debt, emphasizing that disconnections are not a source of satisfaction for the company.

“We don’t take delight in disconnecting customers as we buy and sell power, so the more a customer uses our product the more we get revenue, however, disconnection which is always the last resort is carried out to keep the debt profile of customers very low”, said Mr. Adjiku.

“Volta Forest in Hohoe has been disconnected due to non-payment of electricity bills as they owe close to GH₵900,000 and they have been under disconnection since the last exercise which ended in April. Very soon we will consider the next line of action to retrieve this debt to enable ECG to gather enough revenue to keep the electricity supply chain running”, he added.

He encouraged customers to get abreast with the operations of the ECG’s cashless system which enables them to transact business with the power distribution company anywhere at their convenience.

“With the introduction of the enhanced ECG PowerApp and the shortcode *226#, customers can transact cashless business with ECG anywhere and anytime so we urge our customers to pay their bills before our revenue officers visit their premises”, he explained.

He said the national revenue mobilization exercise remains a top priority, as it strives to improve ECG's financial stability and enhance service delivery.

Mr. Adjiku encouraged customers to continue supporting his outfit, stating, "we are not only collecting revenue; we are also dedicated to assisting and sensitizing customers to effectively use the ECG cashless system.

"This comprehensive approach aims to foster a culture of responsible payment and empower customers with convenient payment options”, he said.
