David Boadi Asamoah, new Acting Managing Director for ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has appointed the Deputy Director of Customer Service, David Boadi Asamoah, as the new acting Managing Director.

His appointment follows the resignation of the immediate past Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama on Wednesday, September 25.

According to information obtained by JoyNews, Mr Mahama resigned for personal reasons.

In his resignation letter, which was sighted by Myjoyonline.com, he wrote, "I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons."

But at an emergency board meeting held on Thursday, September 26, the ECG board confirmed David Boadi Asamoah’s appointment, with immediate effect.

Speaking at the meeting, the ECG Board Chairman, Alexander Afenyo-Markin acknowledged receiving Mr Mahama's resignation letter and announced the decision to appoint Mr Asamoah as acting Managing Director.

“The board accepted the resignation of the Managing Director and Mr David Asamoah has been nominated to act as a Managing Director pending decisions of the sole shareholder of the company which is the government, and we're going to have the necessary engagement with a sole shareholder," Mr Afenyo-Markin stated.

He further assured the public that the management change would not disrupt the company's services.

“The entire system of the company is in place and the company will continue to provide the essential services that it provides for Ghanaians and the country. So simply that's the point,” he added.
