President of the Council of Ewe Chiefs in Ashanti, Ahafo, and Bono regions, Torgbiga Mawufeame Fugah has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to be transparent, impartial, and truthful in the conduct of the 2024 election.
He says the EC has the lead responsibility of rallying Ghanaians to keep the peace in the conduct of such an election.
He spoke at the celebration of Eweza 2024 in Kumasi.
"Ghana will go to polls to elect a new government, I wish to state strongly that political parties are not rivals but partners for the progress and development of our nation Ghana. Power is given to the elected party through the ballot and vote. The citizens who vote look up to them for progress Provisions of good health care, good Education for their children, citizens employment opportunities and above all peace," he said.
He says the peace and unity of the country must remain intact before and after the election.
Torgbiga further spoke against the rampant illegal mining activities and called for immediate intervention.
"It is for very good reason that our forefathers consecrated our rivers and forest to their Gods and treated river and forest with reverence. They bequeath to us clean water bodies and forests," he vowed.
Delivering his speech, Torgbiga noted that instead of consecration and reverence, the country is now seeing the desecration of water bodies reckless and careless cutting down of forests in the name of Galamsey.
"The rivers are polluted with dangerous chemicals, children are being born deformed, strange disease and climate change," he admonished.
He quizzed the legacies the present generation will be leaving for the unborn generation.
"Something drastic must be done to reverse this trend," he called.
The festival saw dignitaries like, Joshua Alarbi, the head of John Mahama campaign team, the council of Ewe chiefs and other indigenes of the Eweland in the Ashanti Region grace the occasion.
