The Eblah Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to community development, has made significant strides in improving the lives of Whuti residents in the Anloga District of the Volta Region.
The foundation recently commissioned an environmentally friendly, biodegradable community toilet facility, a testament to its commitment to sustainable solutions.
Aligned with its mission and vision, the foundation invested over GH¢200,000 in this project, which was officially inaugurated on November 6, 2022, by Ms. Elinam Ablah Horgli, Managing Director of the Eblah Foundation, and HRM Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe VI.
Designed by Architect David Tettey, the modular, accessible, and self-sustaining toilet facility was brought to life by a dedicated project management team comprising Mr David Tettey, Mr Cyril Evans-Chinery, the late Mr Martin E. Bruce, and Ms Elinam Ablah Horgli, in collaboration with Toilet Engineers and Sanitation Services.
The project persevered despite challenges such as unpredictable community support and economic fluctuations. Due to rising costs, the initial budget of GH¢114,000 in 2022 escalated to approximately GH¢215,000 in 2024.
On the 3rd of November 2024, the completed 8-seater public toilet, equipped with a bio-digester and poly tank, was handed over to the Chief of Whuti; HRM Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe VI. The facility is poised to enhance the quality of life for Whuti residents. The unwavering support of the local chief and elders, coupled with the generous contributions of various donors, has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

By prioritizing local content and community empowerment, the project team engaged local artisans and suppliers wherever possible. This initiative aligns with UN SDG goals 6, 11, 15, and 17, focusing on clean water and sanitation, sustainable cities and communities, life on land, and partnerships for the goals.
The foundation extends its gratitude to all contributors, especially the children of Whuti who participated in various aspects of the project. The foundation is confident that this facility will positively impact the community for generations to come.
The Eblah Foundation's commitment to community development extends beyond sanitation. This year, the foundation has undertaken several other impactful projects, including furnishing the Tema General Maternity unit to enhance maternal health and ensure safer deliveries, beach cleaning and plastics segregation at Nungua Shining Beach to protect coastal ecosystems and promote sustainable waste management, as well as skills training for young people to empower the youth to create sustainable livelihoods through vocational training.
Through these initiatives, the foundation continues to be a vital force in creating a world where every community can thrive.
