e-Crime Bureau awarded for a decade of impact in cyber security

Ghana’s foremost and leading cyber security and digital forensics firm, e-Crime Bureau, was on Saturday, December 3, 2022, recognised and awarded the Cyber Security Consulting Brand of the Decade at the 4th National Communications Awards held at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The organisation in its 11 years of establishment, has remained consistent in providing cyber security related support for organisations across various sectors; security/law enforcement, stakeholder groups, civil society organisations and individuals, in addressing the many risks and cyber threats that digital innovation introduce.

In June 2012, the Bureau collaborated with the Ghana Police Service/Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the e-Crime Project to develop capacity of crime officers across the country on investigative responses to the problem of cybercrimes and other electronic-based criminal activities in Ghana.

It has from this period provided digital forensic investigations support to law enforcement agencies leading to the Bureau’s technical assistance to setup a digital forensics laboratory for the Criminal Investigation Department in 2020.

e-Crime Bureau has supported many organisations to develop technical, human resource and cyber security governance capacities to deal with challenges associated with IT systems through its managed security services/SOC operations, vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, cyber threats intelligence, security intelligence, development, and review of cyber security governance frameworks, among others.

The e-Crime Academy has impacted greatly on the cyber security skills needs in Ghana and the West African sub-region by training many organisations, professionals and individuals in awareness, technical and certification programmes in cyber security and digital forensics related courses.

The Bureau is currently partnering GIZ and the Pan-African E-commerce Initiative to improve fraud and cybercrime prevention and detection mechanisms to protect investments in the e-commerce space.

A significant contribution to the communications industry has been its collaboration with MTN Ghana between 2018 and 2020 in building capacity of Crime Officers of the CID, Magistrates/Judges of the Judiciary and media personnel to fight the mobile money fraud menace in Ghana.

Other significant initiatives with partners and organisations are in the areas of e-commerce fraud, child online protection, industry sensitisations, cybersecurity awareness campaigns and other media sensitization efforts have contributed immensely to improve the cyber hygiene and culture of Ghanaians in the cyberspace.

The awards event was organised under theme “The Digitalized Economy: Innovation for National Development” by the Africa Digitalization Impact Project and RAD Communications Group to celebrate and honour individuals and organisations in the media and communications space for their contributions towards developing a sustainable industry.

The event was attended by distinguished institutions and personalities across public, private organisations, media, advertising and communications bodies.

The event unveiled the 3rd Edition Brand Focus Africa Magazine and celebrated two (2) illustrious media personalities, Mr. Kwabena Anokye-Adisi (Bola Ray) and Oheneyere Gifty Anti for 25 years of media work. The event also honoured one of Ghana’s long-standing leaders in the advertising industry, Mrs. Norkor Duah.
Leading the e-Crime Bureau team to receive the award, Mr. Bekoe Palmer-Buckle, a Senior Consultant at e-Crime Bureau, appreciated organisers for the nomination and recognition.

He dedicated the award to the numerous clients, stakeholders, institutions, and staff that have supported the brand over the past decade, and reiterated the Bureau’s commitment as an indigenous Ghanaian brand and admonished Ghanaians to believe and invest in local businesses to create opportunities as well as build sustainable and globally competitive African brands.

He said e-Crime Bureau will continue to invest in systems and technology to provide security to organisations and individuals to sustain recent gains of Ghana’s cyber security development.
