President Akufo-Addo has once again taken a dig at the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, criticising his tenure as Ghana's former President.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Mr Mahama has left no tangible legacy for Ghanaians to remember him for, in contrast to former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor.
Speaking during a community engagement in the Northern Region as part of his ongoing tour, President Akufo-Addo highlighted Mr Mahama’s administration is only synonymous with Ghana's severe power crisis, known as "dumsor."
He remarked that when Mahama's name is mentioned, it is only the era of intermittent power supply that comes to mind, a period that severely affected businesses and households across the country.
President Akufo-Addo further questioned why Mahama is seeking to return to office given the difficulties his administration imposed on the nation.
He expressed concerns that if given another chance, Mr Mahama would create further challenges and setbacks for Ghana’s development.
The President pointed out that both Rawlings and Kufuor are remembered for their distinct contributions to the country's progress.
In contrast, he argued that Mr Mahama’s time in office was marked by economic mismanagement and power instability, which left lasting damage to the economy.
President Akufo-Addo concluded by urging Ghanaians to reject Mahama in the upcoming general elections, just as they did in 2016 and 2020.
He called on voters to consider the future of the country and choose a leader who can drive progress, rather than repeating past mistakes.
"When you mention Rawlings, District Assembly comes to mind, when you mention Kufuor, National Health Insurance Scheme comes to mind, when you mention Akufo-Addo, Free SHS comes to mind but when you mention John Mahama Dumsor comes to mind," the President insisted.
