One security official of the Ghana Airports Company and three others have been arrested by the Narcotics Control Board over the discovery of a quantity of a substance suspected to be a narcotic in the terminal building if the Kotoka International Airport.
Owusu Yelbert said to be a top security person and three employees of the airport’s Duty Free shop have allegedly been arrested, while two other security personnel are on the run.
Security sources at the airport said some time last week, the GAC received intelligence reports that a quantity of the drug had been taken into the terminal building with the intention of exporting it.
The source said the airport was immediately cordoned off to keep an eye on all critical areas to ensure that the packages were located.
“We subsequently conducted a search in the entire terminal building and discovered some packages hidden in a room within the terminal building,” the source said.
The packages were kept under close surveillance and the six who were identified as those who could have possibly been involved in placing them there were invited for questioning.
Meanwhile the National Security outfit has requested the management of the GAC to immediately set up an internal investigative team to go into the circumstances under which the packages found their way into the terminal building.
This, the sources said is without prejudice to any investigations being conducted by the NACOB
